Heist: Robbing the Bank of England: Soho Studios Entertainment

This two part documentary looks at the 1990 robbery of the Bank of England in which £292 million was stolen.

Presented by Marcel Theroux, the series travels across the globe to uncover how a theft that began as an apparent street mugging spiralled into a decades-long mystery involving the IRA, Colombian narco-terrorists, and the mafia. Despite the huge sum stolen, the ringleader was never brought to justice, and many questions remain unanswered, until now. The series has  unprecedented access to both law enforcement and criminals at the heart of this mystery.

We’re delighted to share that Episode 2 has been edited by Rob Trela, bringing his exceptional storytelling and editorial craft to this complex and cinematic true crime investigation. We chatted to him about the project and he said “It was a really fun, but also quite challenging, edit. We had contributors coming in from all across the world, which always adds an interesting dynamic to the production process. For this series, we drew influences from all our favourite heist films to craft such a high-paced narrative, with Marcel chasing down the story of the largest heist no one has ever heard of. I’m incredibly proud of what we achieved. A big shout-out to an incredible team: Series Director Sam Miller, Producer Riva Japaul, EP 1 Editor Rhyss Hall, DoP Mikołaj Bakalarz, and our fantastic host Marcel Theroux”.

This one’s sure to be criminally good viewing! Heist: Robbing the Bank of England is available to stream on NOW and can also be viewed via Sky Max and Crime+ Investigation from today!
