Graham Taylor is an accomplished, award-winning editor with an abundance of documentary experience. He is a true collaborator: passionate, inventive, and committed to pushing the boundaries of what editing can achieve. Graham spent nearly a year in the edit with The Stringer, his editing helps to balance the emotional weight of the story with the meticulous unravelling of a two-year investigation.
The Stringer is a gripping and provocative new documentary that has already sparked a global conversation. Released on Netflix today and fresh from a high-profile premiere at Sundance, the film re-examines one of the most iconic photographs of the 20th century, the image widely known as “Napalm Girl.”
For over 50 years, the picture has been credited to Associated Press photographer Nick Ut. This documentary follows journalists Fiona Turner, Terri Lichstein and Lê Vân, as they pursue their own investigation from eyewitness interviews to examining archival footage from the day. Their search eventually leads them to Nguyễn Thành Nghệ, a driver for NBC who sometimes sold photos to international outlets. Now in his 80s, Nghệ appears in the film visibly emotional as he recalls selling the photograph to the AP for $20 and a print, only to spend decades troubled by the missing credit. His claim ignited fierce debate within the photojournalism world.
GT said ” it was an honour and privilege to have a hand in shaping the history of one the most historic photographs ever made. The film stands a reminder that truth and authenticity matters more today than ever, and of the role of independent journalism, and documentary making, in maintaining trust in democratic institutions”.
The Stringer: The Man Who Took the Photo is out on Netflix now.
