Pompeii: Out of Time with Tom Hiddleston

Plimsoll for Nat Geo and Disney+

Director: Tom Barbor-Might

Editor: Felix Black

Felix’s career is studded with epic retrospective documentaries that bring intimate and new perspectives on well-known subjects that you didn’t think could surprise you anymore, so when Plimsoll productions was looking for an editor to help finish their new series about Pompeii, he was delighted to jump in and lend his skills to this project.

Hosted by Tom Hiddleston, this 3-part limited series is a fusion of cinematic scripted drama reconstructions and investigative documentary storytelling that transports audiences to ancient Rome in the lead up to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius and follows three characters as the navigate the ensuing disaster.

Felix explained ‘Pompeii: Out of Time quite literally brings the past, and one of history’s most terrible disasters, back to life. What I found most significant was the contagious passion and insight of Tom Hiddleston, who formed such a strong emotional link to actual historical people from nearly 2000 years ago, that they felt like your brother, your sister, your family. Cutting with amazing drama and VFX, I was able to craft the opening of each episode by delving deep into the interwoven, time-hoping narrative. All with the latest scientific and archaeological evidence, which gave us a brilliant palette with which to uncover previously lost human voices from the catastrophe.’

Tune in to National Geographic on 22nd July to travel back in time and discover what really happened, or stream on Disney+ from 23rd July.
