What happens when crime moves faster than the law can catch up? That’s the question at the heart of Code Is Law: When Crime Meets Code, a sharp, thought-provoking documentary directed by James Craig and Louis Giles and edited by Aidan Sansom.

The film dives into the chaotic world of cryptocurrency and decentralized finance (DeFi), where hackers can steal millions with just a few lines of code and often get away with it. It explores real-life cases of crypto heists and the people left picking up the pieces, blending tech, tension, and human stories in a way that’s both gripping and easy to follow. The film has been described as fast, smart, and surprisingly emotional for something rooted in blockchain and algorithms.

Aidan had access to first-hand testimonies, expert analyses, and a wealth of tweets, press clippings, and digital evidence.

We caught up with Aidan to discuss how he tackled this complex story, “It was a hugely challenging yet ultimately very rewarding project. The world of Crypto is complex, to say the least, and the events taking place in this film were no less so. The real task was in turning them into a compelling story that would keep audiences gripped. Directors James Craig and Louis Giles were very collaborative and open to trying different approaches and techniques to see what worked, and I think we’re all pretty chuffed with the result.”

Code Is Law: When Crime Meets Code is streaming on Prime Video and Apple TV from the 21st October.
