Commissioned by Netflix, Sunderland Till I Die is an eight-part series produced by James Corden’s production company Fulwell 73. The behind the scenes documentary looks at the town’s passion for the club, following the team during their first season in the Championship after a painful relegation from the Premier League under former Manchester United manager David Moyes in the 2016/17 season.

Lem Lawrence who worked on the series said “It was different for me working on longform, I really enjoyed it, althoughparticularly at the start, there was a lot of keeping track of the graphics(There was a whole heap of graphics on this series). Also I had to devise a wayto create end credit graphics and looks that were consistent with what wasbeing produced by the graphics company for different sections (For example,mobile phone footage, newspaper headlines, end credits etc), that would then befed across all the episodes that I wasn’t able to work on, due to other workcommitments. This meant I had to make these parts in a way that a freelancerwould be able to come in and easily be able to replicate in their episodes. Ifound it really interesting finding out what really goes on inside a footballclub, lots of parts I had never even considered”.

The Broadcast Awards is the most highly anticipated event in the television industry calendar, celebrating the very best in British programming and channels and we are delighted to see that our editors have worked on several of the programmes nominated.

The Fight for Mosul- Mongoose Pictures for Channel 4.  This Intimate documentary following a group of young soldiers leading the fight to re-take Mosul after more than two years of ISIS rule. Edited by Ella Newton, it has been shortlisted in the ‘Best Documentary Programme category’.

Massacre at Ballymurphy- The Outsider Movie Company and Dartmouth Films for Channel 4. Edited by Charlie Hawryliw, this feature length documentary tells the unknown story of the death eleven innocent people at the hands of the British Army in a Catholic Estate in 1971. It has been shortlisted in the ‘Best News & Current Affairs Programme’.

Hospital-Series 3- Label1 for BBC Two.  Observational fixed rig documentary series set in Nottingham University Hospital, one of the country’s biggest and busiest Trusts. Shortlisted in the ‘Best Documentary series’, Rose Glandfield edited one of the 60min episodes.

Love Island Series 4.  Shortlisted in the ‘Best Entertainment’ Catergory – Tim Fielding and Janet Shaw worked on this popular reality dating show.

Celebrity Hunted- Shine Television for Channel 4, Also shortlisted in the ‘Best Entertainment’ Catergory. Tanya Trochoulias and Jen Hampson worked on this series where seven famous faces join this hit real-life thriller, for Stand Up to Cancer.

Sounds like Friday Night- Fulwell 73 for BBC1. Shortlisted in the ‘Best Music Programme’ category.  Gavin Ames edited the VT’s across the whole of this live music series presented by Greg James and Dotty.

The Repair Shop- Ricochet for BBC2 Best Popular Factual Programme. Alex Marsh and Hugo Fowler have worked on the series.

Escape to The Chateau: DIY – Martin Sole edited one of these episodes for Spark Media/Channel 4.

All Together Now- Tim Fielding worked on the series for the Endemol Shine Group for Remarkable Television.

Britain’s Youngest Football Boss (w/t) is a Curious Films production for BBC Three. Charlie Russell and Dov Freedman are the Executive Producers

The first two episodes in a brand new series following top flight football club West Ham United women’s team and their 19 year-old Managing Director Jack Sullivan.

Filming on and off the pitch across the season, the series will follow the progress of a squad of female players as they debut in the professional Women’s Super League. Having leapfrogged two divisions from the part-time third tier into the newly-revamped league, West Ham United women’s team will now, for the first time, compete at the highest level of the sport, against some of the toughest teams in the world.

Jack’s first full-time job since leaving school at 16 will be overseeing a squad of 18 outspoken, powerful women, and trying to raise the profile of a growing sport, one often dismissed and derided by male fans. With exclusive access to the club, players and backroom staff, as well as to Jack and his larger-than-life family, this is a revealing and inspiring behind-the-scenes story of what it takes to be a professional female footballer in today’s game, and whether a loveable but inexperienced teenager can change the face of women’s football.Mark Pickles and Jamie Williams are working on the series.

We had a brilliant time at The Grierson Awards last night. Susan Calman was a fantastic host, the awards were presented by Susanna Reed, Stacey Dooley, Julie Etchingham  and Professor Green to name but a few!

Well done to Kel who edited the The Highlights Showreel and award packages for the ceremony.

Congratulations to Ella who edit  ed ‘The Fight for Mosul which was nominated in the Best Current Affair category and had a Highly Commended recognition by the judges.

And lastly, a big congratulations to Belle who worked on Old People Home for 4 Year Olds which won in its category of Best Constructed Doc Series.

The Grierson Trustees’ Award winner was Sir Trevor McDonald. Juliet Etchingham presented the award and it was interesting to hear stories of their work together and to be reminded of his achievements over an amazing career.

All in all a great evening had by all!

As Prime Minister Theresa May declares that austerity is over, the programme reveals that more than 35,000 parents are now using baby banks to provide their young children with nappies, clothes, toys and cots. Dispatches has discovered that there are now more than 100 baby banks in the UK, the vast majority of which have been set up since the austerity programme began. For the first time, Dispatches has surveyed these baby banks, to get a sense of who they’re serving and the services they’re providing and meeting working parents who can’t afford the most basic essentials and have to rely on baby banks to provide for their children.

Badger said “I’m really pleased with this film and proud that Commissioning Editor thought it the best Dispatches she’s commissioned! It was hard work given 35 hours of footage and just three weeks to craft, great team effort to get it out on time and produce something a little different with a lot of heart”

Channel 4’s hit Celebrity Hunted: Stand Up to Cancer is back for a second series as 8 famous faces attempt to evade capture.

Celebrities involved this year are Dom Joly and TV star Vicky Pattison, Olympian Louis Smith with Strictly Come Dancing’s  AJ Pritchard, Sky News anchor Kay Burley alongside politician and former Royal Marine Commando Johnny Mercer MP, and Love Island’s  Chris Hughes and Kem Cetinay.

An audacious experiment to try and find out exactly how much our body clock affects our health and wellbeing is conducted–by putting one brave volunteer into complete isolation from the rest of the world.

The Big Audition is a brand new factual entertainment series which goes behind the scenes of the casting world.

Real people will be cast for real jobs, which have the potential to be life-changing. The casting panels will be searching to fill all sorts of roles and anyone can audition, from seasoned professionals to first-timers. It will uncover the decision-making process of the panels and will transport us through each audition to reveal what really goes on in the casting studio.

Through intimate interviews, we’ll hear heart-warming, funny and touching backstories. There will be highs and lows along the way, but who will have what it takes to land the job of their dreams?

Derek, Janet, James and Connor worked on the series.

Union VFX

This series of inspirational master classes gives an opportunity to gain insights into all aspects of the film and TV industry. Yesterday’s class attended by Lynne and Katie was held at the award winning Union VFX at their facility on Rathbone Place.

The lecture held by MD Lucy Cooper consisted of an introduction to Union and some behind the scenes of the work they do. Looking specifically at some of their shots in Danny Boyle’s T2 Transpotting, Lynne and Katie found it interesting to see what specialist VFX editors get up to!  They are looking forward for the rest of the sessions.

New Order: Decades follows the band as they prepare for their 2017 So It Goes… concerts at the Manchester International Festival. With full access to New Order and their collaborators, this film is an unprecedented and intimate celebration of their story and their music. Through personal interviews with the band members and close collaborators including Gillick and art director Peter Saville, ‘New Order: Decades’ offers a rare chance to enter the band’s private world, understand the visual philosophy of their aesthetic and design, and witness their collaborative, creative processes first hand.

Dan Setford edited the documentary supported by Richard Lester and Gwyn Moxham who worked their magic on the concert footage.

Here’s what the guys had to say about their time on the edit:

Rich Lester  “It was a real pleasure to work with Mike Christie and Dan Setford. The amazing lighting design by Liam Gillick was an inspiration for cutting the performance sequences and being able to dance along to the iconic songs whilst editing was great fun!”

Gwyn Moxham agreed stating “It was great to work on – super high energy concert, great music, interesting cutting the young synthesiser orchestra that they had with the band etc. Also was great working with Dan again and also with the director”

Dan, who was lead editor, loved the whole experience, both from a career and personal point of view “What made this such a special project for me personally is that I am a massive New Order fan. Without a doubt it’s rare opportunity to work on a project where you completely love the subject matter!  Luckily Mike is a very technical director and has a clear understanding of workflow, so I thought he must have a cunning plan! Well he did. It was to drag me along to the shoot in Vienna and out of the comfort of the edit suite. This was a great move from Mike. It allowed the edit to be thought about from the get go. Something which isn’t always done when it comes to shooting a documentary.  ‘Decades’ was a joy and privilege to edit. It could have easily made me want to cower whenever I heard a New Order track after finishing the film. Well it didn’t! Actually it had the opposite effect! I now again enjoy being told to turn it down by my very patient wife and two boys. Where now I have the hope that I may one day add a few more New Order fans to our house”
