ENDURANCE : The Documentary about Porsche at the Two Toughest GT Races in the World.

Editor- Mark Pickles

Director- James Routh

Hochkant Film Available on Amazon Prime and Youtube

The 24 Hours of Le Mans on 15/16 June 2019 and the 24-hour race on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife just one week later put drivers, engineers and team managers under stresses seldom experienced in such a concentrated form.

With spectacular images, the new Porsche documentary Endurance outlines the background, challenges and tireless efforts of the Porsche team. Every high and low of this monumental challenge is documented.

The wonderful Mark Pickles edited the documentary and here is what he had to say about his experience on the project:

24hr Endurance racing is honestly madness! I quickly developed a serious respect for these guys. Their world has some of the most fanatical followers of any sport, and the challenge of the film was to make something which satisfied the most hardcore of fans, whilst entertaining and appealing to a broader audience at the same time. The sport is incredibly intense with a lot happening on and off the track, and we wanted to transport the audience into this high stakes environment, in the most authentic way.

From the point of view of the edit, feature length projects are a passion. The indulgence of 90mins is especially fun to work on. Due to the nature of the 24 hour footage, we had the privilege of copious amounts of footage and audio to work with. It was incredible to have such camera coverage, and of such beautifully shot footage. James (the Director) has a huge amount of experience in this high octane environment and really knew what he was looking for. Working with him was a real pleasure. He was very trusting in my approach and we formed a really rewarding partnership.

Working with an international team was also a memorable and enjoyable collaborative experience, and I was thrilled to lead the edit.

ENDURANCE  is available here on Youtube  or on Amazon Prime.

Coronavirus: How Britain Is Changing Dispatches

Editor Jayesh Lathia

8th April 9pm Channel 4

As coronavirus takes hold of Britain, Dispatches investigates the long-term effects of the outbreak and asks how the deadly Covid-19 is changing Britain in the long term. As the death toll rises, the programme looks at everything from seismic changes in economic policy to shifts in the way we view and treat other people, and from a drop in pollution to the widening of the gaps between rich and poor, young and old. The programme asks what a post-Covid 19 Britain, torn apart by the disease, might look like, and the potential changes to the way people live their lives for years to come.

Jayesh who edited the programme said ‘‘Working on the programme was a unique experience. Editing a fast turnaround current affairs programme about the future impact of the Covid-19 crisis, and doing so as the national lockdown was announced with the situation changing not just daily, but sometimes hourly, all of which informed the programme’s narrative’.

The Station: Trouble On The Tracks

Films of Record for ITV

Editors Aidan Sansom and Ben Burgess

Thursday 12th March 9pm

This new three-part documentary series for ITV goes behind the scenes with railway staff to provide a vivid insight into the variety of situations they face from flooding to industrial action, irate passengers, parties on the concourse and even nudity on the platforms. With exclusive behind the scenes access to staff from Network Rail – which operates the country’s train tracks – their command centres and lines, the programme focuses on Birmingham New Street Station, the heart of a transport network spanning from Aberdeen to Penzance.

Ben who edited Episode 1 said ‘Working on this series was a challenge, due to a huge volume of material and a tight turnaround. Trying to give a sense of scale of all the interconnected facets of a rail network – telling stories with tension and large-scale jeopardy whilst also retaining an intimate feel with individual characters, not to mentions pleasing both the channel and the access – was no mean feat. But I think we’ve ended up with something that everyone’s happy with. It was also kind of strange, as a commuter, to work on a series with uncanny parallels to my actual life, and nice to feel a bit more sympathy if I’ve been late for work due to signalling failures, industrial action, floods, animals or leaves on the line”

Aidan said “The edit was bit of a challenge and it went through a lot of iterations, but it had a great team in the edit, and a very supportive series producer and exec. Good bunch of people all round”.

Ben edited Episode 1 which airs on Thursday 12th March. Aidan edited episode 2.

Thomas Markle: My Story

Channel 5

Editor Jayesh Lathia

Alaska TV

This film looks at the once loving relationship between Thomas and Meghan as she was growing up. Filmed at his home in Mexico in October 2019, this documentary follows Thomas Markle as he reveals the story behind his dramatic fall out with daughter, Meghan. In the wake of the recent announcement that Duke and Duchess of Sussex have chosen to step back as senior members of the Royal family, cameras return to ask Thomas his thoughts on their decision.

Jayesh who edited the film said ”It has been a very exciting project to work on, especially given the very topical and fast moving nature of events over the past couple of weeks. At it’s heart, the film deals with a human story of a father and daughter whose once loving relationship has resulted in a complicated fallout. The fact that the father and daughter happen to be Thomas and Meghan Markle makes this story even more extraordinary”.
